About this Webinar

Receiving a disclosure or responding to a safeguarding concern can be one of the most significant and emotionally demanding aspects of safeguarding practice. This free webinar with Leigh McFarlane, Director of Kaizen Safeguarding based in Northern Ireland, explores how practitioners can respond with confidence, clarity and compassion while also protecting their own wellbeing.

This session will draw from trauma-informed practice, reflective learning and real-world safeguarding experience in the Northern Ireland context and beyond. Leigh will examine the often complex and fragmented nature of disclosures, helping participants better understand how children and young people communicate harm, and why responses matter.

  • Practical safeguarding insights for anyone working in a position where they may receive disclosures, respond to concerns or support individuals who have experienced harm.
  • How to recognise the impact safeguarding work has on wellbeing and respond to the realities of vicarious trauma through supervision and debriefing.
  • Strategies to build a healthy organisational culture that supports both effective safeguarding and sustainable wellbeing.
